2008 BRITISH OPEN - The 137th Open Championship
ROYAL BIRKDALE GOLF CLUB. SOUTHPORT, ENGLAND
JULY 17th – 22ND, 2008
The world’s leading golfers will be at Royal Birkdale in July to compete for golf’s oldest and most coveted trophy – The Claret Jug.
The Open Championship returns to the Lancashire Course at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th July 2008, to compete for golf’s oldest and most coveted trophy – The Claret Jug. This will be the ninth time Royal Birkdale has hosted the Championship, from Peter Thomson's win in 1954 to Mark O'Meara's in 1998.
The Royal Birkdale Golf Club is situated in the North West of England, on the same stretch of coastline as Royal Liverpool and Royal Lytham St Annes, both also Open Championship venues. As well as England's Golf Coast, the Northwest region also contains Liverpool, Manchester, Lancashire and Cumbria.
The course is at the southern edge of Southport in Lancashire. The Open has been played eight times at Royal Birkdale since it was added to the list of championship courses in 1954. That year Peter Thomson won the first of three Opens in succession, returning in 1965 to add his fifth and final title. Arnold Palmer's victory in 1961 is recognised as the turning point in the fortunes of The Open, giving new life and international impact to the Championship.

Padraig Harrington will defend his title at Royal Birkdale this July. For this year's Championship, He will be joined in the field by Paul Lawrie and Sandy Lyle of Scotland, Ernie Els from South Africa and US tour player Justin Leonard.
Harrington won in dramatic form at Carnoustie last year after dropping two shots on the 72nd hole and getting his hands on the Claret Jug only after a four-hole play-off against Sergio Garcia, who had been long-time leader of the Championship.
The
2008 British Open betting odds have been posted by
Gamblers Palace Sportsbook! Padraig Harrington is the reigning champion and is currently posting 15/1 odds (a $100 bet wins $1500). The Claret Jug or the proper name, The Golf Champion Trophy, will be presented to the winner of The Open Championship.

Torrey Pines
| The much
anticipated 2008 U.S. Open Championship will be held at the
Torrey Pines South Golf course June 9th though the 15th in
La Jolla, California. This is a very exciting event because
this is only the second municipal golf course ever to be
selected to host this prestigious golf championship. The
first was in 2002 at the The Black Course at Bethpage in New
York. |

Torrey Pines was built in
1957 by William Bell Sr. and is only the second golf
course owned by the general public to ever host a U.S.
OPEN Championship. A $ 3.5 million renovation that
included moving several greens to increase the
difficulty and length of the course was completed in
2002.

Torrey Pines will offer a spectacular view of the
Pacific Ocean and surrounding bluffs at many of the

2008 US Master
Winner: Trevor Immelman followed in the illustrious
footsteps of Gary Player by becoming only the second
South African winner of the Masters Tournament at
Augusta National. The 28 year old completed a
wire-to-wire victory with a final round of 75 for a
three stroke triumph over World Number One, Tiger Woods.
Immelman, who finished at 8-under 280, started the week
by playing a practice round with his boyhood idol, Gary
Player, who won his third Masters in 1978 and set a
record by playing for the 51st time.
Immelman handled the wind and pressure of Augusta
National far better than anyone chasing him Sunday to
win The Masters, the first South African in a green
jacket in 30 years.
