PGA Honda Classic Golf Tournament
March 1-7
The Honda Classic
Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

This week the PGA Tour will head to Palm Beach Gardens, FL for the Honda Classic. The players will battle the tough PGA National Resort & Spa’s Champion course that has hosted over 20 major championship events.

The Honda Classic golf tournament forms part of the PGA Tour and is played in March of every year in Florida. It was first played in 1972 when it was known as Jackie Gleason’s Inverrary Classic, before getting Honda on board as a sponsor in 1982.

In 2007 the Honda Classic moved to the Champions Course at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, which is where the tournament currently remains. In the early days of the Honda Classic, the host course was the East Course at the Inverrary Golf and Country Club in Lauderhill, and included "Inverrary" as part of the tournament's name from 1972 through 1983. Other host courses in Honda Classic history include TPC Eagle Trace in Coral Springs, Weston Hills Golf and Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, TPC Heron Bay in Coral Springs, and the Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens.

The Honda Classic PGA Tour golf tournament has been won by some renowned golfers over the years, including Jack Nicklaus in 1977 who also won it the following year.

The most recent winner of the Honda Classic is Yang Yong-Eun, who won his first tour title at the 2009 Honda Classic golf tournament, defeating top player John Rollins by a single shot.

In 2008, Ernie Els was the Honda Classic winner, with a stunning 16th PGA tour victory. Labelled as his “PGA tour comeback”, Els won the golf tournament by defeating Luke Donald by one stroke.
